Where I Work - 20-Day Blogging Challenge - Day One

Where do I work? I kinda work everywhere...
I'm a School Bus Driver!
And I absolutely LOVE IT!
I'm a mom of three. When my daughter turned four, I was pretty much over the whole drowning in debt and being a stay-at-home-mom thing. I needed something that would work with my kids school schedule and get me out of the house to talk to other adults. I was very ready for a change.
I took the plunge to become a bus driver. I attended the required classes, took my permit tests, and then finally drove the big yellow cheese wagon. That forty-foot bus was my destined future. The very first time I drove, I didn't go far, but the rumble of the diesel, being able to see over everything around me, and the importance of what I was embarking upon was undeniable. I loved everything about the bus.
I passed my Commercial Drivers License Test and was working for my kids school district three days later. There have been moments of complete terror, having to take care of and safely transport kids that weren't biologically mine, and complete frustration at not being able to say what I want to say, having to abide by rules I didn't have as a stay-at-home-mom.
But absolutely nothing has made me regret making this decision I have made some amazing friends in my fellow co-workers, and the parents along my route. The students are all pretty awesome. I've learned a lot more from this job than I ever expected too.
Yes, there are times being a school bus driver is frustrating. When there is a student on the bus that doesn't want to listen to the rules, back talking that you cannot defend against, and road work (OHHH the road work). But the smiles, the greetings, the excitement the students share with me in brief seconds of their day, make it all worth it.
I don't know how long I'll be a bus driver, but my youngest still has thirteen years of school ahead of her. I'd say I have at least that long in me. (But probably more if I can keep up with it.)
